Larry Strickland - Communion

Jesus said, "I have come to serve, not to serve, and to give my life a ransom for many." We should have this thought of service in mind as we prepare for communion.

1 Corinthians 11:23-32

Let us examine our heart, and take time to make it right with the Lord before we take communion.

Jesus twice says to take communion in remembrance of Him

What should we remember?

  1. Remember the cross -- it is finished, done. We are no longer an outlaw
  2. Remember the empty tomb -- Not only is the penalty paid for, but God has taken us out of the realm of death and taken us into the realm of new spiritual life. Remember the power of a resurrection life (Romans 8)
  3. Remember He sent His Holy Spirit -- He is alive in us to help and convict us (John 14:16-21)

What can keep our cup from being filled? Self and sin.
Song: Fill my cup Lord (702)

Bruce Hempel - Be a priest

In the new testament, all Christians are to be priests (1 Peter 2:9-10). Let us remember we are now members of God's people.

Revelation 5:4-10. Jesus could open the scroll because He conquered. Verse 10: God's people are called to be priests.

Why weren't new testament leaders called priests? Because God did not want us to think that there was an intermediary between us and God except Jesus. When Peter writes, he calls himself an under-shepherd under the good shepherd. The goal of my interaction with people should be to bring people to have a great relationship with Jesus, not to pull them to myself. God wants us to have people on our heart (as the old testament priests had the 12 tribes on their ephod). We are priests who help other people meet the high priest.

Bill Teubl - love for the Church

2 Timothy 3:16-17 God's desire for you in life is to know everything you need to know to be equipped. There is always time and energy to do the will of God.

Psalm 84:1-2 To apply this psalm to the Church: Ask yourself: "Do I see the Church as lovely? Do I see the people as lovely?" If we are having trouble, ask "God help me to see you as altogether lovely, and to see you in your people."

Homework: Read Psalm 84, then answer: What does this psalm teach about what it is to love the Church?

I surrender all (596)
