Luke 14
Verse 12 - This is a passage that gives us insight into giving. We should open our homes to the poor, needy, maimed. We must examine ourselves and ask whether we have something to give.

Verses 16-23 - Following the comment of eating bread in the kingdom of heaven, Jesus followed it up by saying that the wealthy were the people who were searching for excuses not to attend. God wants you to come because you want to come. Ask yourself whether you have the desire to come to God's banquet. What are the riches that keep us from God's banquet?

Matthew 22
Verses 1-14 - This is a wedding feast. The spiritual parallel here is significant. When we are invited to the feast, we are given the wedding garment (righteousness of Christ). God gives us His garment because ours are unworthy.

Dr. Bill Teubl - The Crucifixion and redemptive suffering; John 19:17-42

There are five main pictures that the crucifixion portrays in redemptive suffering:
First - Pilot put "Jesus, King of the Jews" over the cross. Although Pilot's heart was not necessarily in the right place, he proclaimed the truth about Jesus. The outcome of redemptive suffering is that the truth is proclaimed.
Second - Jesus speaks to Mary, saying John is her son and to John that Mary is her mother. The crucifixion shows us that God will take care of relationships, strengthening them during redemptive suffering.

Bruce Hempel - The Life of Abraham; Genesis 12:1-4, 7;15:1-6

Abraham is the father of the faith. Justification is not by works, but by faith. Paul uses Abraham as his example to prove this point.

One important thing to notice in this situation is that God speaks first. Abram responded, and did what God said. God had a big plan for Abram, giving him riches and land. God wants to bless us, just the way he did Abram, so that we can be a blessing to others. Giving is an important aspect of living a Christ-centered life.

Verse 7 – this thing that God is doing for Abram is actually for his decedents. The “making an alter” suggests that something is sacrificed. Abram repeatedly made an alter before the Lord and called upon his name. Do you have a place that you can meet God?

Bruce Hempel - Luke 19:41-20:20; Repentance

Jesus said He wished Jerusalem knew what would make for its peace. They didn’t recognize Jesus’ true identity and authority. Some heard His words, others plotted to kill him. The chief priests, scribes, and principle rulers, who rejected him. These were those who had positions and they did not want Jesus to take away this power.

That’s when He tells the story of the tenants. He is referring to the chief priests and Pharisees. He says that He has come for fruit and even prophesied about His death. They knew what He was saying and instead of repenting, they looked for a way to get around it—a truly unrepentant heart.
