How were Saul and David similar?
- Both were anointed to reign over God’s people – same calling
- Both had the Spirit of the Lord come upon them (1 Samuel 10)
- Both committed significant sins against the Lord
- When confronted both Saul and David apologized (2 Samuel 12)
What is the difference between them?
Looks can be deceiving, even to ourselves (Lord looks at heart) – Matthew 25:31-45
Saul excused sin, David acknowledged
- A heart after God’s own heart welcomes correction and God’s leading
- Psalm 139:23-24
- A heart after God’s own heart will confess sin and be forgiven and cleansed
- Psalm 51:1-2
- A heart after God’s own heart longs for God
- 1 John 1:7-9, Psalm 51:11, Psalm 63:1-3
